Create New Tasks
You can easily create new tasks in your project using the Methvin Gantt Scheduler. You can add tasks using any of the following methods:
Import from Excel
- On the top menu bar, click File.
- Select Import From Excel.
- Upload your Excel file by dragging the file or click to upload.
- An Import from Excel mapping form will open where you can set the column headings (description, duration, startDate, and endDate).
- After setting that, click Import and all tasks in the file will be added to your Gantt chart.
Import from Pricing
Your Gantt project must be linked to an Estimating Project in the Workspace.
- On the top menu bar, click File.
- Select Import From Pricing. Within this option, you can choose one of the following:
Import Production Rate
Selecting this option will retrieve the quantity and production rate for tasks that use the variable [PDY] in their worksheets. Task duration is automatically calculated based on the production rate.
- In the Import from Pricing window click the Import Production Rate option at the top left corner.
- This will add Quantity, Production rate and Number of Crews to the Gantt grid, as you edit their values the duration is updated accordingly.
- You can also select resources from the right panel in the Import from Pricing window. Selected resources will be assigned to all relevant tasks.
- Click Import Pricing.
Import Man Hours
Selecting this option will retrieve the man-hours defined in your estimating sheets. Task durations are calculated according to the imported man-hours.
- In the Import from Pricing window click the Import Man Hours option at the top left corner.
- This will add Man-hours and Number of Crews to the Gantt grid, as you edit their values the duration is updated accordingly.
- You can also select resources from the right panel in the Import from Pricing window. Selected resources will be assigned to all relevant tasks.
- Click Import Pricing.
Import from MS Project
- On the top menu bar, click File.
- Select Import From MS Project.
- Upload your MS Project XML file.
- Click Import. All tasks, links, resources, calendars, and configuration settings exported from MS Project will be added to the Gantt Scheduler.
Toolbar
You can quickly create tasks from the toolbar.
- Click the plus (+) icon to create a new task.
- To create a subtask, select the task you want to use as the parent, then click Create Task. The new task will appear directly beneath the selected row as its child task.
Copy From Master
- On the right side of the Gantt view, open the Copy From Master panel by clicking the « button.
- In the panel, click the button to choose a Master Gantt Project.
- After selecting a master, its tasks will load in the right-side panel.
- Select the tasks you want and drag them into your current Gantt chart. The selected tasks — along with their assigned resources — will be added to your project.
