Task Information Form
The Task Information form allows you to view and edit all details for a selected task in one place. You can open it by:
- Double-clicking the task row
- Selecting the task and clicking Task Information from the toolbar
- Opening the Insert menu and selecting Task Information
The form contains the following tabs:
1. General Tab
The General tab includes all basic task properties. You can update the following fields:
- Task Name – Edit the name of the task.
- Type – Choose whether the item is a Task or a Milestone.
- Progress (%) – Set the completion percentage.
- Duration – Enter the task duration in days.
- Start Date / End Date – Set dates manually or by using the calendar picker.
- Deadline – Optionally define the deadline date for the task. All these fields can be modified based on your scheduling needs.
2. Predecessors Tab
This tab is used to link the selected task with other tasks.
To add a predecessor
- Open the Predecessors tab.
- Click Add.
- Double-click the new row to select the task you want to link to.
- Choose the Link Type (FS, SS, FF, SF).
- Add Lag (number of days to delay the task), if required.
- Click Save. Important: Lag will work only when the task does not have a Must Start On or Must Finish On constraint. These constraints override link logic and prevent lag adjustments.
To remove a predecessor
- Select the row and click Delete.
3. Resources Tab
The Resources tab shows all resources assigned to the selected task. You can control how much each resource contributes by adjusting Units (%).
Understanding Units (%) This field determines how much of the resource’s daily working hours are allocated to this task. Example: If a resource works 8 hours/day and you set Units = 50%, the resource will work 4 hours/day on this task.
Managing Resources
- Add Resource: Click Add, double-click the row, select the resource, and it will be added to the task.
- Modify Units: Select the resource row and change the value in the Units (%) column.
- Delete Resource: Select the resource and click Delete.
4. Advance Tab
The Advance tab allows you to define scheduling rules and the calendar used for the task.
Calendar
Choose which Calendar you want the task to follow. This affects working days, holidays, and non-working time.
Manual Schedule
Enable Manual Schedule to freely set dates without applying constraints. Manual schedule disables automated constraint logic.
Constraints
If Manual Schedule is off, you can set constraints:
- Must Start On
- Must Finish On
- Start No Earlier Than
- Start No Later Than
- Finish No Earlier Than
- Finish No Later Than After selecting a Constraint Type, set the Constraint Date.
Project
If you are working with multiple projects inside one Gantt file:
- Mark top-level tasks as Project (e.g., Project A, Project B).
- Use the Project Marker button from the toolbar to display the start and end of each project.
Rollup and Split Options
These options control how child tasks appear on the parent task bar in the Gantt view.
Rollup
Rollup overlays selected child tasks onto the parent task bar. The parent shows the timeline segments of its children. Methods:
- Method 1: Through Task Information
- Open the child task → enable Project
- Open the parent task → enable Project
- Method 2: Toolbar
- Select both the parent and child tasks
- Click the Rollup button on the toolbar Note: To undo rollup, reopen Task Information and disable the option. Rollup shows child tasks in both expanded and collapsed states.
Split
Split displays all child tasks overlaid on the parent only when collapsed. This gives a high-level overview without expanding the hierarchy. To apply Split:
- Select the parent task and click Split from the toolbar or
- Enable the Split option inside Task Information
Read Only
Enable Read Only to lock a task.
- The task cannot be edited
- The task cannot be linked to other tasks
- Other tasks can still be linked to it This option is useful for protecting key milestones or externally controlled tasks.
