Civil Navigator
The Civil Navigator is a specialized feature designed for civil and infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and highways. It provides a dynamic way to visualize, inspect, and analyze linear infrastructure directly within the BIM Model App.
The Civil Navigator works exclusively with civil IFC models.
To ensure smooth performance and accurate visualization, upload civil models (e.g., roads or bridges) in a separate BIM Model project from building IFCs such as architectural or structural models.
Accessing Civil Navigator
- Click on the Civil icon from the toolbar.
- The Civil Navigator panel will open at the bottom of your screen, displaying both a graphical navigator and control options.
Understanding the Navigator Controls
The Civil Navigator allows you to move along the alignment of your model (e.g., a road centerline) and visualize cross sections or portions of the model dynamically.
- Navigator Slider:
Use the slider at the top to move along the model alignment. As you slide, the section view in the canvas updates to show the corresponding location on the model. - KPs (Kilometer Points):
When enabled, this option displays chainage or reference markers (KPs) along the alignment. Each KP label (e.g., 1+925, 2+40, 2+100) corresponds to a specific point on the road. - Clip:
When activated, this option “clips” the model to display only a selected portion of the road or structure. You can adjust which part is visible by moving the Navigator slider. - Flip:
The Flip option reverses the clip selection. For example, if half the road is clipped, clicking Flip will hide the visible half and show the previously hidden portion instead. - 2D:
Switch to 2D mode to view the model as a flat plan view. Once in 2D mode, you can continue using the other controls (KPs, Clip, Flip) to navigate and inspect specific parts of the road in a simplified layout.
When to Use the Civil Navigator
- For reviewing road alignments and chainages along highways or linear projects.
- To inspect cross-sections or evaluate how surfaces and elements align.
- To focus on a particular road section using Clip and Flip for design or construction verification.
- To quickly switch between 3D and 2D perspectives for better clarity during analysis.
Tip: Use the Civil Navigator together with the Measure Tool to verify distances or elevations between chainage points for accurate inspection.
