Compare Quotes Side by Side. Integrate the Best Rates.
Import subcontractor rate lists, align them against your Bill of Quantities, evaluate multiple quotes in a single comparison grid, and push selected rates directly into the estimate — eliminating manual re-keying and spreadsheet reconciliation.
Why Spreadsheet Adjudication Breaks Down
Copying rates from emails into multiple workbooks, aligning scopes by hand and then re-entering chosen figures into the estimate creates delay, transcription error and an incomplete commercial trail.
- Quotes arrive as separate PDFs / Excel files
- Manual alignment of line items
- Rates typed into comparison sheet
- Selected figures re-keyed into estimate
- Version conflicts between estimators
- “Which rate was finally used?”
- No live link back to the BoQ
From Quote Receipt to Integrated Rate
Four capabilities that replace spreadsheet adjudication with a controlled, estimate-linked comparison process.
Direct Rate Import
Import subcontractor rate lists from Excel, pull cost rates from existing pricing tasks, or apply rates by resource type. Eliminates manual transcription and keeps source data intact.
Side-by-Side Comparison Grid
Each subcontractor appears as a column against the shared Schedule of Quantities. Spot rate differences, coverage gaps and outliers immediately. Filter or group by trade, location or service type.
Automatic BoQ Integration
Selected rates push directly into the Bill of Quantities. The estimate reflects the adjudicated figures without a second data-entry step, preserving a continuous commercial trail from quote to final rate.
Rate Manipulation Tools
Copy or replace rates between subcontractors, fill unpriced items with highest / lowest / average rates, subtract irrelevant scope, apply factors and currency conversion — all inside the adjudication form.
Everything Needed for Controlled Adjudication
Built for estimators and procurement teams who need more than a comparison spreadsheet.
Trade Category Structure
Create Subcontract Trade Categories, rename them to match your package structure, and open a dedicated adjudication form per trade. Keeps multiple concurrent packages organised.
Learn more →Import Bill Items
Drag Bill Items from the estimate into the Subcontractors Schedule of Quantities. The shared item list becomes the alignment spine for every subcontractor column.
Learn more →Subcontractor Management
Add subcontractors with name, attribute, company, factor formula, currency and conversion rate. Track total columns, unlinked tasks and spread/used status in one panel.
Learn more →Export for Analysis
Export the full comparison data for further review in Excel or other tools. Share organised rate information with stakeholders without breaking the live link to the estimate.
Learn more →Spreadsheet vs Generic Tools vs Methvin
The differences that matter when the bid deadline approaches and margin is on the line.
| Capability | Excel / Manual | Generic Bid Tools | Methvin Tender Comparison |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rate import from subcontractor files | Copy / paste | Limited upload | Excel, cost rates, resource type |
| Shared Schedule of Quantities alignment | Manual matching | Often separate sheets | Drag BoQ items once |
| Side-by-side multi-subcontractor grid | Built by hand | Basic tables | Native columns per subcontractor |
| Direct push of selected rates into estimate | Re-key required | Export then import | Automatic BoQ integration |
| Fill unpriced items (highest / lowest / average) | Manual formulas | Rare | Built-in rate tools |
| Factor, currency and conversion handling | Ad-hoc | Limited | Per-subcontractor controls |
Built for Bids Where Rate Selection Matters
Complex packages generate multiple overlapping quotes. Only a structured adjudication process turns that volume into a clean, integrated commercial position.
- Trade categories organise concurrent package adjudications
- BoQ items imported once become the alignment spine for every quote
- Rate lists imported from Excel or pulled from existing cost data
- Side-by-side grid exposes price and coverage differences instantly
- Selected rates integrate directly into the estimate without re-keying
- Factors, currency conversion and unpriced-item tools stay inside the form
From Trade Category to Integrated Rate
A controlled path that keeps the estimate and the comparison grid in continuous alignment.
Create Trade Category
Open Subcontractor Adjudication, add a new Trade Category and rename it to match the package. Open the adjudication form for that category.
Import BoQ Items & Subcontractors
Drag relevant Bill Items into the Schedule of Quantities. Add subcontractors with factors and currency settings. Columns appear ready for rates.
Import & Compare Rates
Import rate lists from Excel, cost rates or resource types. Use copy/replace, highest/lowest/average fills and subtract tools to normalise scope.
Select & Integrate
Choose the preferred rate per line or package. Selected figures integrate into the Bill of Quantities. Export the comparison grid for audit or further analysis.
Trusted by Estimating Teams
Estimators and commercial managers use Methvin adjudication to replace spreadsheet-driven rate selection.
We stopped re-keying rates from comparison sheets into the estimate. The selected figures land in the BoQ with a clear trail back to the original quote.
Having every subcontractor as a live column against the same Schedule of Quantities makes coverage gaps and outliers obvious within minutes instead of hours.
The ability to fill unpriced items with highest, lowest or average rates, then apply factors and currency conversion inside the same form, removed a whole layer of spreadsheet work.
Common Questions
Practical points about how subcontractor adjudication and tender comparison work inside Methvin.
How do I start an adjudication for a new trade package?
Open Subcontractor Adjudication from the application toolbar, create a new Trade Category, rename it, then open the adjudication form. Import Bill Items from the BoQ and add the subcontractors you intend to compare.
What rate import options are available?
You can import from Excel (click or drag-and-drop), import cost rates from existing pricing tasks, apply rates by resource type (materials, labour, equipment), or copy/replace rates from another subcontractor already in the form.
How are unpriced items handled?
From the column heading dropdown you can fill unpriced tasks with the highest, lowest or average rate across the other subcontractors, or copy rates from a selected subcontractor’s priced items into the current column.
Can selected rates be pushed into the estimate automatically?
Yes. Once rates are adjudicated, the platform integrates the chosen subcontractor pricing into the Bill of Quantities so the estimate reflects the final commercial position without a second data-entry step.
How do factors and currency conversion work?
Each subcontractor record includes a Factor field for formula or percentage adjustment and currency settings with conversion rate. These apply to that subcontractor’s column and remain visible in the adjudication form.
Can comparison data be exported?
Yes. The full comparison set can be exported for further analysis in Excel or other tools, or shared with stakeholders while the live link to the estimate is retained inside Methvin.
Stop Reconciling Quotes in Spreadsheets
Move from manual rate alignment and re-keying to a single adjudication grid that imports quotes, compares them side by side and integrates the selected rates directly into your estimate.
