Job Costing User GuideQuote AppFrequently Asked Questions

10. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch a quote between Lump Sum and a fully itemised schedule after it’s been sent?

Yes. The Design toggles can be changed at any time — switching layout only changes how the same underlying pricing is presented, not the pricing itself. Re-export or re-share the quote after making the change so the client receives the updated version.

Does hiding a Commercials section delete the text I’ve written?

No. Toggling Scope of Work, Inclusions, Exclusions or Notes off simply hides that section from the preview and export — your text is kept and reappears when you switch the toggle back on.

What’s the difference between the Commercials toggles and the Section Order eye icons?

Commercials controls whether a written section has content and is switched on at all. Section Order controls the final visibility and position of every section, including ones outside Commercials such as the Pricing Table and Summary — a section hidden in Section Order won’t appear even if its Commercials toggle is on.

Can I use a different set of Design and Options settings for different clients on the same project?

Yes. Design, Commercials and Options are set per quote, so you can open the same estimate more than once and configure each version differently — for example a detailed internal version and a simplified Lump Sum version for the client.

Why does the document title change when I switch to Job Cost view?

In Job Cost view the quote is tied to a specific progress claim rather than the overall project, so the title reflects that claim, for example “Progress Payment 3”, instead of the project or workspace name shown in Estimate view.

Can I reuse my Design, Commercials and Options setup on future quotes?

Yes. Use Save as Template in the Actions panel to save the current configuration, then apply it to future quotes from Templates.

How do I control what unit and rate labels the client sees, such as renaming “Gross Rate”?

Open Table Columns and edit the text box under the column’s name — renaming a column here changes its heading in the pricing table without affecting the underlying data.

How do I remove the logo, or my name and email, from the quote?

Click Edit Content in the Actions panel and untick the box beside the logo, your name or your email address, then click Done Editing. Tick the box again in Edit Content to bring the item back.

How do I choose which table columns the client sees?

Click Edit Content and use the tick box on each column heading to keep or remove that column. You can also rename a column and change its width percentage in the same place. Click Done Editing to apply the changes.

How do I change the colours of the BOQ?

Click Preferences in the Actions panel and, on the Common tab, choose a different Style Presets option such as Preference 2. To change one heading level, use the c swatch for its text colour or the bg swatch for its background colour, then click Update.

What do c, bg, b, t, uc, tc, bl, ul and il mean in Styles Setting?

c is the text colour and bg is the background colour. b and t show the background and text colour. uc is uppercase, tc is title case, bl is bold, ul is underline and il is italic. See Section 3.5.

What is the Takeoff tab in Preferences for?

It holds default settings for the Takeoff app: Measurement System, Measurement Unit, Default Icon Size and Default Line Size. It does not affect how the quote looks.
